Amor en Cuarentena

Set in the Central Coast, the Spanglish series follows Emi, a funny, dedicated and complicated Mexican-American teacher and hopeless romantic, as she looks for love with the help of friends and family during a global pandemic.

 

Pilot - Buscando Amor

Emi feels stuck in a box and either out of boredom or desperation, she starts looking for love… virtually. What can go wrong?

Episode 4 - Amor en las Buenas y en las Malas

Emi opens up her home to Angelica who just lost her job. They realize that even if you love someone, it’s not always easy to get along. 

Episode 2 - Amor de Madre

Emi receives an unexpected visit from her mom Imelda. Imelda comes with food and a side of her, Emi didn’t know.

Episode 5 - Unconditional Love 

After months of trying to find love, Emi realizes she should have started by loving herself and those around her.

Episode 3 - Love at a Distance

Emi continues distance teaching and realices the struggles and resilience that her students have. Regardless of what’s thrown at them, they find a way to thrive.  

 

Meet the Cast

Karolina Esqueda as Emi

Karolina Esqueda is an actress, filmmaker and visual artist from Tijuana, Mexico. Her work is inspired by her culture and the intersectionalities and complexities of identity and multiculturalism. Karolina has a minor in Theater and Performance Studies with an emphasis in Acting from the University of California, Berkeley and is currently an MFA candidate in Film & TV Production at USC's School of Cinematic Arts. Any day you can find Karo singing, annoying her cat, doing yoga or dancing to Bad Bunny.

Jovita Molina as Imelda

Jovita Molina is thrilled to be included among the cast of Amor En Cuarentena! A native of Watsonville, CA, she has been blessed to have worked with theatrical companies such as the world-renowned El Teatro Campesino (San Juan Bautista Ca.), Teatro Vison (San Jose Ca.), Paraphrase Theater (Monterey Ca.) Baktun 12(Salinas Ca.) and More, Más, Marami Theater (San Jose Ca.) just to name a few.  Jovita began acting for television and on independent films several years ago.  You can catcher her in Chance (Hulu) and in Service With a Smile (SWAS), Mi Alma or in other movies made for the Film Festival circuit.  Her most memorable role to date has been the role of Dolores Huerta in Let the Eagle Fly: A New Musical play based on the life work of Cesar Chavez.  Amor En Cuarentena is her first venture into the Web Series genre. She would like to thank her parents for instilling in her a love for the arts and to her family for their support.

Griselda Rojas as Angelica

Griselda was born in Mexico and moved to the US at a young age. She has pursued a career in the field of education as a college persistence advisor, now residing in Washington, DC. Growing up, Griselda was obsessed with all novelas, this being her first time participating in a project like this is something she is thrilled to be a part of.

Luis Aguirre as Alex

A Salinas native and son to Mexican parents. I enjoy creating through writing and collaborations with friends. My favorite activities are hanging out with family & friends, watching & listening to comedy podcasts/standup and understanding, creating, adapting systems. I like to offer and listen to different perspectives, because there are many ways of being and many ways of seeing.

Linda Maria Girón as Vera

Linda (they/them, elle) is a queer Guatemalan-american actor, playwright, musician and visual artist from Los Angeles. UC Berkeley TDPS alumna, Linda has performed and collaborated with many theaters throughout the Bay Area. They are also an artistic company member of Shotgun Players and work on staff at Golden Thread Productions. Linda is excited to enter the film scene this year with leading credits in the upcoming polyamorous ghost story rom-com Dead in Love (Dark Rainbow Films), indie short Golden (Nova Cat Films) and the experimental 'Rocanrol' docu-film, Cracked Velvet (Illumination Productions). Eugenia Rentería - Writer, Producer & Director

Born and raised in a rancho in Zacatecas, Mexico, I moved to California when I was 12 years old. I love writing stories and bringing them to life. A coffee drinker and music lover, who also enjoys hanging out with friends & family and traveling back to her hometown. I’m really enjoying producing and directing Amor en Cuarentena, working with the cast and crew has been a delight. I have learned so much in this film adventure, I cannot wait to share the continuation of this story with the world.

Luis Aguirre - Writer

A Salinas native and son to Mexican parents. I enjoy creating through writing and collaborations with friends. Maria Cano - Producer

I was Born in Zapopan, Jalisco Mexico and moved to the United States in 2003. As a Mexican Filmmaker I enjoy creating stories that portray our experiences and struggles. On set I enjoy making the director’s vision come to life through the use of lighting as well as capturing good, quality sound. My hobbies include dancing and performing as part of a Mexican folklorico group: Estampa de las Americas. Watching Korean dramas and enjoying a SF Giants baseball game. As a producer for Amor en Cuarentena, I’m eager to continue this journey through the next episodes.

 

Miguel A. Silva - Associate Producer & Assistant Director

Miguel was born in Salinas, CA. He has a degree in Cinematic Arts & Technology and has acquired acting skills in Mexico City to complement his directing skills. He is currently working towards his teaching credentials in bilingualism. He is part of Amor en Cuarentena as Associate Producer and Assistant Director. His hobbies include; hiking, mountain biking, going to the beach, traveling and a good iced coffee.

Samantha Cruz - Associate Producer & Production Designer

Inspired by nature, music and laughter I go through life creating content for any business or person that needs good publicity or a design. I studied in Mexico City and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Sciences. I infinitely believe that teamwork does wonderful things. Good mezcal and hanging out with friends heals anything. I like plants, puppies, science fiction movies, photography and Haruki Murakami.

Paco Serrano - Director of Photography

I was born in Mexico City where a surreal air flows through the streets, creating amazing stories and pictures. That air inspires me every day in my work as an editor and cinematographer, and motivates me to keep learning every day in order to bring the best quality to the projects. I love photography, music and movies. I'm a foodie and a fan of tea . I'm a dog lover and I love to do drone photography as a hobby. 

 

Carlos “Charlie” Campos - Camera Operator

My name is Carlos Campos, also known by many as Charlie; I'm a filmmaker and photographer born and raised in Watsonville, California. I'm a fellow of the Watsonville Film Festival's inaugural Cine Se Puede Fellowship alongside Eugenia Renteria. I have a B.A in Mass Communication and Journalism from CSU Fresno and an M.F.A in Social Documentation from UC Santa Cruz. I have been doing Video Production for over 6 years, and have worked for TV Stations like Fox 35 and Univision. I have been working at a local non profit as their Video Production Specialist for the last 2 years and help other organizations run their Social Media pages.

Juan Palomino III - Gaffer

I’m a gaffer and cinematographer born and raised in the South Bay and currently based out of Gilroy. One of my passions is working on Latinx productions and bringing Latinx stories to life.

Megan Martinez Goltz - Audio Recordist

Megan is a queer chicanx documentary filmmaker, editor, and audio recordist based in Santa Cruz, California. Working to eliminate erasure of indigenous traditions and practices, Megan shares stories to promote collective and individual healing. They work with the LGBTQ community to share stories celebrating authentic identities in ways that invite inclusion for folks to feel a sense of belonging. Megan is passionate about learning ancestral ways of cultivating the earth for food and medicine and weaving these practices into the stories they share.

 
 

Gerry Arrioja - Sound Mix & Music Composer

Born and raised in Mexico City, I have a degree in performing arts and show production and have dedicated my entire career to live music, composing for media and performing arts. As a guitar player, studio musician, main composer, music producer, music supervisor, theatrical sound designer and audio editor, I have worked on theater productions and audiovisual projects such as film and short films. I deeply believe that in order to accomplish our dreams we must be constantly learning and open to new ideas and experiences, and that's what drives my passion for life. Whether it's composing for a film, performing on stage, or traveling to new places, I'm always ready for an adventure and excited to see what the future holds.

Fannie Cepeda - Sound Mix & Sound Design

I am Fannie Cepeda and I was born in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico. I majored in Communication Studies in Bajio which is where I found my passion for sound design. I have been working in the production of audio for radio, video and cinema for more than six years. I have worked on projects with Fox Sports and Facebook. What I love about my profession is bringing image, story, and narrative to life through the creation of sound.
